The first time I was introduced to this beautiful young woman was on a repeat of the Tyra Banks Show. I wasn't paying much attention, just had the set on while running through the house doing various things. However, what did catch my attention was this young woman discussing how she felt once she caught this disease, how she wanted to end her own life & I'm sitting on my couch like what disease could bring you to such harsh thoughts such as taking your own life??? Then the words HIV POSITIVE came out her mouth and I literally sat there with my mouth wide open.
Marvelyn Brown contracted the virus at the age of 19 after one night of unprotected sex. Not with someone she just met, but with someone she was in a relationship with. She is now 24yrs of age, residing in Brooklyn, an author as well as an Emmy award winning international AIDS activist!! Unlike most individuals who retreat from the world once diagnosed with this disease, Marvelyn has dedicated her time and life to speaking the truths of how real this disease is. Along with Courtney Martin, Marvelyn has shared her story with us in a book titled "The Naked Truth" which was released in August of 2008 with the hopes to educate people on this virus. This book has definitely been added to my Book Wish List!!
