Deep and Meaningful Words....

So I was skimming through the February issue of Essence magazine and came across a very deep and true paragraph written by the Editor-In-Chief, Angela Burt-Murray and felt the need to share it with my fellow bloggers. I don't know about you, but I've been feeling this year is filled with nothing but positivity, success & happiness for many of us....As long as were willing to accept it!!! Negative energy will only hinder you from receiving what's truly yours....Let's fill our world with nothing but positive thoughts and reap the rewards of such behavior!!!

"Sisters, in this period of unprecedented challenges, we can focus on the negative or we can embrace the positive. We can live in fear and worry, or we can use this time to celebrate our progress, find the lesson and the opportunity in our circumstances, refocus on our purpose, and nurture the precious gift of life. We can look outside ourselves for answers, but we must also reach inside and find that reservoir of strength that has always sustained and moved us forward as a people" - Angela Burt-Murray

Are Things Really This Bad??

Due to our countries current economic woes, murder-suicide rates seem to be doubling. The most touching was the recent case out in CA where a husband & wife decided in lieu of burdening anyone with the responsibility of taking care of their 5 kids and relying on others to assist them in caring for their family, to take their own lives as well as their children. Both parents were recently laid off from their medical technician positions at the hospital which they were employed. Another family in OH may have faced the same fate when the husband was suffering from what officials are stating stress related issues due to his recent job loss. However, in this case, the husband had recently regained employment with his former employer over the last three weeks.

Its perfectly understandable for individuals to feel overwhelmed with their current financial situation because we are facing hard times but are these issues with your life?? Your innocent child's life??? I think NOT. I am a single mother of a 10yr old who handles all responsibilities on my own!! Times get VERY hard for me at times but the thought of taking my own life more less the most precious gift I've ever received in my whole 31yrs is just unthinkable!! Instead of me walking around with the "woe is me" mentality, I wake up every morning thankful for all I have and continue to pray for my many blessings.

Life will not always be an easy path for us to walk. We must take the good with the bad and remember everything we face in life is only temporary. However, its totally up to us how we deal with each difficult issue we may face!!!

How Dare She.....

Go from a size 2 to a size 6, maybe 8...SMDH @ the media!!! Well if they think she's a fat, they don't want to see me flaunting my size 12/14 shape...That's right, I'm a thick chick and what. I think Jessica still looks beautiful (just not feeling this fit @ all)!!! Honey, rock those curves proudly and for those haters stating how obese you are.....You know which finger to give them ;)

Its sad how the media makes any size larger than a -zero to be considered obese and unattractive. This depiction of weight only adds to the many issues our young women face today and honestly needs to end. There's NOTHING sexy about skin and bones. Young girls are becoming more and more focused on how much weight their gaining instead of loving themselves for who they are. Beauty is only skin deep (yes its cliche but absolutely true). Your outside appearance does not represent who you are on the inside. Never mind what others say, as long as YOUR comfortable with who you are, make no changes!!

Quote of The Week

Normally I only post one quote. However, these two really spoke to me so I decided to make this weeks quote a double whammy :)

Enjoy!!!

"Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens." - Eric Hoffer

"Circumstances and situations do color life but you have been given the mind to choose what the color shall be." - Eric Hoffer

Soooooo......

I've finally narrowed down what my next tattoo will be and where I want to get it....I'm sooo excited and decided to share this excitement with my BFF Peg's. We've decided to make this a girls day out and be there for each other (mostly her, LOL...Luv you boo) while getting them done. I loveeeee getting inked up, LOL...I know I must sound crazy but I live for the excitement of getting a new tat. Did I mention how much I FEAR needles??? It amazes me how I sit throw a tattoo session with no probs but have to mentally prepare myself for a shot, SMDH @ me!!!

How Often Do You Orgasm????

While on chill mood today, I read this article on health & body tips/advice. In the article, one thing listed as a must do to help keep you on track with sticking to your staying healthy goal was having multiple orgasms with or without a partner. How interesting is that?? Not only are orgasms a great form of releasing stress, it can help keep us living a longer, healthier life.

Well ppl, go out and have allllllllll the sex you need....It's for your health ;) Just please continue to handle your biz safely!!!!!

Friendship Poem

"Sharing good times with good friends is the greatest joy. This is the stuff that makes life worthwhile. Whether sharing a meal together or a good conversation, there is nothing more fulfilling then spending time with friends. We must be thankful for the friendships that come our way for not all are blessed with the skills to form deep relationships. Those of us that do have friends must never take for granted the gift bestowed upon us."

Many of us tend to take for granted the TRUE friendsships we have by becoming so engrossed in our own world. We must not lose sight of these relationships and begin to appreciate them just as much as any other relationship were involved in. As the old saying goes, "You Never Know What You've Got Till It's Gone". Frienships come and go but TRUE friendships will survive a whole lifetime!!!!

How Funny Is That.....

So out of my boredom, I take this little "What Does Your Birthday Mean" quiz sent to me by one of my girlfriends and how funny is it the end result actually applies to me. Check it out.

"You are friendly, humorous and full of energy. You are open-minded and do not care for minor details. Your weak point is your hot temper. Your Love, You are willing to start off in one-sided love affairs because you strongly believe that you will eventually win his/her heart. On the other hand, once you are together, you always want to do things your way, which is often the fire starter. You usually run in and out of love quickly."

Now ain't that some shit!! LOL, LOL

Todays Random Conceptions.....

Why do ppl always stand in front of the doors on both the bus and train when there's so much free space once you step all the way in?

Why do ppl toss the restroom at work when they are the same ones who have to use it on a daily basis?

Why can't ppl accept when their wrong?

Why do ppl wake up angry and make it their business to take it out on the world?

Why do ppl sweat the small stuff when there's so much more to life?

Why do we put our all into those who aren't deserving?

Why do we seclude ourselves from the world when all isn't right?

Why do we choose to be there for those when they haven't done the same for us?

Why do we sacrifice our happiness in order to make others happy?

These are just random things that run through my head during my commute to and from work....The list is actually longer, but these are some which stood out the most

Obsessed

Obsessed is a new thriller due out this spring starring my chocolate boo, Idris Elba (ooooh how I love this man, LOL), Beyonce and Ali larter who I think is also a great actress. Beyonce has stepped her acting game up with her recent hit, Cadaillac Records. However, based on what I've seen in this trailer, I think this movie could also be another hit for Mrs. Carter. I'll definitely be checking this one out...Mainly for my chocolate honey dip Idris, hahahahahaha.

Check out the trailer

"I've Declared This My Year!!"

I've always declared, " This new year will be my year" (how cliche is that, smh). However, I feel this year WILL be my year with all my being!! Every year I write out a list of goals I want to accomplish but never pushed myself to see them through. I've always said I want to do this, I want this, I need that, but never continued with the steps necessary in order to grasp them.

This year will be a different year for me. No more procrastinating (which by the way I'm GREAT at, LOL), no more talking about what I want or should do, no more allowing the naysayers to tell me my goals are unrealistic. These words will NO longer stop me for making my dreams come true. Our president has definitely proven to us all that anything we put our minds to could be OURS as long as we continue to have hope & believe within ourselves!!!

I've been blessed to see our first African-American president walk gracefully and confidently into the White House our ancestors built and I refuse to allow his work & our their work go in vain. We've come to far to stop pushing for all we want and deserve in life.

This year, I have made my list of goals and have declared this year to see some if not all through fully. Patience, strength, positivity, drive, motivation and a great support factor of positive, reinforcing individuals are all necessary to make these things come alive!! I will suceed in all I do regardless of what barriers I may encounter.

"If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress"

- Barack Obama

"Laugh Of The Day"

Todays train ride home was just long for no damn reason. However, it perked up as I was approaching my stop. A young lady standing began to lose her balance and it appeared to me she felt her phone call was to important to use common sense and hold on to prevent her from falling!! Long & behold who's yelling OMG & falls right on top of the women sitting behind her??? Yep, "Miss Hello Can You Hear" me now.

I tried holding it in but it was toooo damn funny not to laugh. You would've thought by now she'd gotten the hint & hold off all calls till she was off the train....Noooo not her, as soon as she got back up, she was back to her in progress phone call. SMH, I hope her call was worth her close encounter to an evening ass whopping!!!

Oh Happy Days

Even though I'm here working while most are watching our 44th president being sworn in, I'm too damn happy to allow anyone or anything alter my mood. I so wanted to take the day off but I felt that wasn't going to happen once I'd put in the request and its a little to early in the year to start using my days since I have so many other things I would need to do with them.

Thankfully Cablevision has made my life that much easier by creating the DVR box so I won't miss a thing. I'll be able to catch all the highlights of the inauguration after work with my BFF Peg's and some other really cool individuals @ Ultra so I'm not to disappointed I wasn't able to make the trip out to DC or be at home to watch it all go down live.

I hope everyone is enjoying this glorious day just as much as I am!!!!! This my friends is a day of pure joy and should not be affected with any form of negativity!

Are You Kidding Me???

Why, whyyyyyyyyy is this MAN/CHILD getting his own show??? Now we all know I am a fan of some reality shows....The non-trashy ones like, "The First 48", "Gangland", "American Gangsta", "Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane", just to name a few. However, these finding love shows are just flat out ridiculous!!!!!!! Since VH1 seems to give anyone a show, my girls and I should hit them up with our ideas for a reality show. Hmmmmmmmmm............

"HALO"

Ok so I will openly admit I was NOT & I'm still not really feeling Beyonce's latest album (Pls forgive me loyal Bey fans, LOL). However, Halo is thus far my FAVORITE song on the album and I'm loving the concept of the video.....Hmmmmm I wonder if Michael Ealy co-starring has anything to do with my love for the video, LOL. The words are deep and many of us can relate.

Enjoy!!!

Hopefully I'll Master This...

position with only a few short classes =/. A friend of mines suggested taking Pole Dancing lessons and its something I'm actually interested in. Since a few friends & I are planning on adhering to a serious work out plan this year, we've decided to incorporate a few classes within the normal work out plan mix. However, I'm honestly more interested in mastering the art of Pole Dancing. After viewing some videos on Youtube, I've found this is a serious, skilled, seductive form of art!! I can be a little clumsy as well as shy at times but I've decided to put that behind me and follow through with my plans.

Maybe I'll even post some pics of me making a fool out of myself while sliding down the pole, LOL, LOL.

TGIF!!

Well the weekend is finally here amongst us and I'm happy to see it but not happy with the below zero weather coming along with it :( Anyhoo....I will be enjoying my long weekend with those I love the most!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!

"Quote of The Week"

"Our real blessings often appear to us in the shape of pains, losses and disappointments; but let us have patience and we soon shall see them in their proper figures."

-Joseph Addison

At times we tend to take things for granted, even the smallest thing. Be grateful for what you have...Count your blessings daily!!!

My Joy Can't Be Stolen!!!

For a minute I almost stepped out of character & reverted to my old ways. Eventually I calmed down & realized the childish office BS we deal with will always be there. However, its up to us whether its entertained or not. I have way to many positive & productive people around me to allow one individual to ruin my happiness! Never allow anyone to steal your joy!!! As the old adage goes, "Misery Loves Company". Sadly for them, I'm not fond of the company misery keeps ;)

"There are two things to aim at in life: first, to get what you want; and after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second."
~Logan Pearsall Smith, Afterthoughts, 1931

Sigghhhh.......I'm in love

Yes I'm in love....with these bags of course, LOL. I went into the Louis Vuitton store just to take a gander at what's new and I walked right into my lover, Alma GM. This bag is from the Monogram Vernis collection and I'm thinking of having this added to my growing collection of large bags. So if anyone would like to donate to my cause "BAG ADDICTION", please feel free to do so, LOL, LOL.

"Am I The Only One..."

Who's not that excited to see this movie?? Now don't get me wrong, I was and still am a huge Biggie fan but for some reason, I'm just not that hyped over this. I know so many people who are gearing up to see this movie. However, I can actually wait till it arrives on DVD....IDK =/

There's Always That One Song

So I have this one song I CAN NOT get sick of no matter how hard I try to forget about it, LOL....Its played so much that even my mini me goes around the house singing it, smh. As soon as I hear this song, I stop whatever I'm doing & just blow right along like I wrote the song, hahahahahahaha. Anywho, I hope you enjoy it as much as me....Just pray you don't become addicted ;)

All I Need Feat. Jadakiss - Sterling Simms

Disappearing Parfum??? Hmmmm.....

While passing the time on my loooooooong commute home, I came across this interesting item in my Lucky magazine. Wode by Boudicca was created with the same affects as the DISAPPEARING INK PENS (you remember those stupid things, LOL, LOL) and is currently sold at Barneys for $130. One spray of this item and your covered in blue ink but enjoy it while it last because the color fades away as soon as it makes contact with your clothes. I'm a little tempted to purchase this item.....I think I'll go to Barneys first and see how true this neon blue ink disappears before making this pricey purchase, LOL.

The Twilight Series

I've recently taken interest into this whole Twilight series due to the rave reviews from co-workers and idle conversations I've had with individuals who were reading one of the books while riding the train. I started book one around mid December and I've just finished book three. Twilight is about an awkward teen named Bella who happens to fall for a very handsome vampire....A non-human blood drinking vampire. I won't give away too much just in case some of you are interested in following this series.

Breaking Dawn is the last book of the series and I'm looking forward to seeing how everything plays out between Bella and Edward. However, I will be putting it off for a bit since its 1,000+ pages and I have a list of books I'm dying to read which are way smaller than this book, LOL. These books are highly addictive!! The suspense surrounding these books holds you to the very end of each book. I haven't seen the movie as yet, but I've heard it doesn't do the book any justice so I'll hold out till its on DVD.

Feng Shui

Over the last month I've been considering "FENG SHUING" my apartment. I felt this concept will go hand in hand with the new person I've become over the last six months. I've decided to start with my bedroom first and then work on my bathroom since these are the two rooms I spend most of my time in. Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese system believed to utilize the laws of both heaven and earth to help one improve life by receiving positive(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fengshui).

I'm hoping my room comes out the way I want it to be....I'm soooo not good in the home decorating department (I know, I sucksss major). Once its done, hopefully sooner than later, I will post pics of the final outcome....PRAY FOR ME PEOPLE, LOL, LOL

New Addition

While doing what I loveeee to do the most (Shopping, LOL, LOL) yesterday with one of my besties, Miss D Renee....We stopped at the MAC counter in the Macy's located on 34th St so she can pick up a few items. While chatting it up with one of the MAC girls, we noticed her lashes & let me tell you...They were flawless!!! We asked her which lashes she was using and she laughed it off saying "girl these are my lashes, its the mascara I'm using". MAC's Zoom Lash gives you all your craving for without having to apply false lashes on a daily basis. This mascara can definitely be used on a daily basis and not just for a night out on the town with the girls.

Did I mention how awesome this mascara makes your lashes look??? If you haven't tried this mascara yet, I suggest you give it a test drive....I'm sure you'll be just as proud as us for making this necessary purchase!!

"Amendments...."

Are they worth it in the end??? Have you ever gone through something where you felt closure is needed in order to move forward?? I went through an unnecessary situation back last summer and as time, anger and disgust went by.....I started to learn the whole situation was totally blown out of proportion....Largely due to outsiders. I've reached a point in my life where its way beyond time to let go of the petty shit we all deal with. I've also learned not everyone is capable of moving forward and letting go!!!

I've decided on this one situation, I will TRY to make amends with the individual and address all the issues that circle this one situation. Am I trying to rekindle old relationships???? No, I'm trying to be the grown woman I am and finally put the dumb shit of the past to bed!!! Will I reject the option of rekindling old relationships??? Not at all....The past is the past & that's where it should stay!!! However, I won't force something that's not meant to be....This process is more about clearing the air and moving on.

"Must Read...."

I've become a reading monster as of lately and since this year is my year of financial freedom, what better way to ensure I stick to my guns by following some sound financial advice from THE financial guru, Suze Orman. Her books are very informative and helpful if you follow the steps detailed in her books. The first book I read and suggest to all who are looking for a sound, realistic and easy way of learning how to save and increasing their FICO score, was "The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke". Also check out her website, www.suzeorman.com. There's a slew of financial information there which could help anyone down their road of financial freedom.

"Where I Want to Be...."

Is definitely not here!!! Winter and I have a love/hate relationship. I love how peaceful and beautiful the snow looks while making its entrance but I HATE the freezing temps associated with this horrible season. I'm sorry for sounding so harsh but uggghhhhhhh I can't stand this time of year. One would think after dealing with it for so long, I would grow accustom to what comes along with this horrid season. However, I still cringe when the mere thoughts of another cold season is coming upon us. 70's and above for me please and I'm the happiest person alive.

Ahhhhhh how I'm yearning for a nice summer day right about now while the weather man is tracking yet another miserable wintery mix. As a child I was blessed with the option of visiting family during this time of year in the good ole Virgin Islands :) St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John, hell even the British Virgin Islands became my home away from home during winter recess and I lovedddd it.....Now that I think about it, these trips may be the cause for my strained relationship with my friend Mr. Winter.

Plans for a trip back home are sounding oh so good right now....My baby will be graduating elementary this year and maybe mommy will surprise him with his first trip down to Sapphire Beach.

Well, its almost time to head home and begin my lovely but short weekned....Have a good one all!!!

"Hello New Beginnings!!!"

Since were already done with the first week of the new year, it only seemed fitting to sit down & compose a letter to properly introduce myself to my new friend, 2009. I have an overwhelming feeling this year will be full of pure positivity and I can't wait to see what my new companion has in store for me. I felt if I provided you with a brief background on what goals I've set forth for myself, it will help guide us down the right path while on this journey together.

I have declared this year as a NO STRESS year. Anyone who knows me knows I tend to take the weight of the world and rest it on my shoulder. I will admit I have....No, HAD a problem with worrying over everything, trying to do everything all at once, just all out madness!! 2009, we can not live life in that state anymore. Life is way to short and precious to sit and fret over things so minuscule. What will be, will be and I will let things work themselves out. Any form of negativity will not be allowed within 1000ft of my new found aura!! I've worked VERY hard over these last few months to walk the path I'm walking and I'll be damned if I allow anything or anyone to bring me down.

I'm currently in the process of listing professional goals I would like to accomplish during this year at my company and I have to admit I've allowed the negative issues within my department to deter me from accomplishing my outlined goals. This will not be the case this year. I've worked to hard to achieve the position I'm in and I will continue to work my hardest to reach the level I DESERVE to be in. I've already seen a change in my work habits and in my interaction with my co-workers and I have to say I'm damn proud of myself.

I've also decided to make this year the year I become financially relieved!! I've decided to pay off all my credit card debit over the next few months and rid myself of this unnecessary burden. It took a special someone to verbally bitch slap me into reality and show me how great I will feel taking care of all in one shot and keeping every hard earned penny for myself once real bills like rent and utilities are squared away and you know what, I've created a mock budget once all is clear and shit, he's absolutley right, LOL, LOL.

2009, we need to really focus on making ME time for myself this year. No moreputting others first and much, much more putting ME first!! If a mental break from the real world is needed, I'm just taking it. No more of the usual, "if I'm not at work this may not be completed, why am I laying here when I could be doing laundry, I should keep mini me home instead of sending him off for the weekend" kind of thinking. Basically I just WON'T be thinking when it comes to the matter of ME, just DOING.

Procrastination, something I can do damn well, will no longer play a factor in completing my Master's. Even though I love my current job, I feel....Noooooo, I know I could be doing much, much more with my life professionally so I will resume working on my Masters in Business Administration minoring in Human Resource Management!!!

Well 2009, this is my rundown. I know we can handle whatever comes our way so I'm not even stressed. My support system is beyond phenemonal and with them, I can damn near accomplish anything I set my mind to!!

Sincerly Yours,

Adina

"Quick Note..."

Like most women during this time of year, I do suffer from dry lips and that's just not sexy...However, I found the above item during the summer while carousing Sephora's up in the Westchester Mall. Prior to seeing this, I read about this item in a Glamour magazine and it received rave reviews from the contributors of the magazine. I decided to give it a try and it does work wonders. Give it a try if your looking for something to help smooth & soothe those luscious lips of yours ;)

You can find this item @ www.sephora.com or www.laurageller.com

"New Found Love"

I've recently purchased Burt's Bees Lip Balm with Pomegrante Oil and I have to say, I'm madly in love with it. Yes I know I may be late & everyone may have already fallen in love with Burt's Lip Balms but I'm more of a MAC girl. The soft texture, the way my lips feel after and the sweet smell of it all had me the minute I took the cap off!!

Another item added to my list of "CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT"!

This was suchhhh a hot song....Big thanks to my mom's raising me on some real slow jams!!!

Enjoy the tunes...

"Hmmmmmm..........."

As I'm sitting here mellowing out to what seems to be my CD of choice these days,Jamie Foxx (go figure, smh) I've been here contemplating if something which is currently weighing heavy on my mind is worth even bringing up....There's that saying, "Choose your battles wisely"....My question is, how do you know which battle is worth fighting???" Ahhh its way to early in the New Year for such thoughts!!! I'm going to do what's best & focus on the goals I have implemented in my personal growth plan....I'll let things work themselves out and if they remain the same, well you know the other saying..."Everything happens for a reason"

Do You Know Who Marvelyn Brown Is???"

The first time I was introduced to this beautiful young woman was on a repeat of the Tyra Banks Show. I wasn't paying much attention, just had the set on while running through the house doing various things. However, what did catch my attention was this young woman discussing how she felt once she caught this disease, how she wanted to end her own life & I'm sitting on my couch like what disease could bring you to such harsh thoughts such as taking your own life??? Then the words HIV POSITIVE came out her mouth and I literally sat there with my mouth wide open.

Marvelyn Brown contracted the virus at the age of 19 after one night of unprotected sex. Not with someone she just met, but with someone she was in a relationship with. She is now 24yrs of age, residing in Brooklyn, an author as well as an Emmy award winning international AIDS activist!! Unlike most individuals who retreat from the world once diagnosed with this disease, Marvelyn has dedicated her time and life to speaking the truths of how real this disease is. Along with Courtney Martin, Marvelyn has shared her story with us in a book titled "The Naked Truth" which was released in August of 2008 with the hopes to educate people on this virus. This book has definitely been added to my Book Wish List!!

"Faves....Gucci Tattoo Heart Collection"

Ok so anyone who knows me, knows I have a LOVE for bags!! All kinds of bags.... funky, retro, bright colored, any bag that's worthy of my jaw dropping, I LOVE IT!!! However, my main preference is of course, LARGE BAGS (definitely don't have enough junk to fill them up with, but who caresssss??? LOL). As most of you know, Rihanna has been hand picked to become the spokesperson for Gucci and what better collection to have her star in (this pic is absolutely stunning). Since 2005 Gucci has partnered with UNICEF to help support programs for orphans and children affected with HIV/AIDS in Africa. From the month of November till January 31st, Gucci will donate 25% of all sales generated from any item purchased from the Tattoo Heart Collection. Check their site out if your down for supporting a worthy cause and interested in a hot bag!!!

It's only been two hours since your departure and I find myself missing you more than ever...I don't know what's coming over me but I'm finding myself wanting to spend every waking moment with you...Labels aren't needed to justify what we have...We've accepted each other flaws & all, you always hit me with the reality of things even when I don't want to hear it (ugghhh it sucks at times to hear the cold hard fact of things, smh)...Hoping this bond you & I share never comes to an end but if it should ever come down to that, I'm still left with a life long friend!!
