Long Overdue….

It’s been a very long time since my last post!  Life, work & school have definitely taken over :-/ I have lots to tell but I want to give you a quick update on my hair.  My one year anniversary is quickly approaching & I’m truly amazed at my growth! I will say with the growth comes longer washing, treating, detangling & styling time but I can’t express how happy I am with that.  I’ve recently tried a sample of Cocoa Hibiscus Conditioning Custard provided by Alex at www.theGOODHAIRblog.com. I fell in love the minute I opened the jar =) The smell is amazing and the mixture was very smooth. I decided to 1st use it as a deep conditioner after doing my weekly wash. I left it in overnight and washed it out in the morning.  This custard made detangling my hair THE best experience since becoming natural!! It was honestly the smoothest process I’ve had in a long time in regards to detangling my hair.  I then used it as sealant on my twist.  Here’s a pic of my results:

Twist Out

My hair was super soft & I was able to rock my twist out for the whole week without any manipulating. I’m looking forward to the official release date as to this along with her Butter Me Up (my favorite staple item) will stay in heavy rotation!  Please check out and support Alex via her blog (listed above), her youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/iamalex07 and of course her store http://www.etsy.com/shop/safihaircare.  Trust me you will NOT be disappointed!!

I’m wishing everyone a Happy, Blessed & Prosperous New Year! I promise not to stay away as long as I’ve been :)

Weekend Plans =)

TGIF & Happy 4th lovely readers :-)

Thankful for this long weekend as both my mind & body are in dire need of a break! While browsing through the various articles on http://www.curlynikki.com, I came across a great article on ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) wash http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/super-kinky/apple-cider-vinegar-as-hair-cleanser. I've tried this once but that was right before I did my big chop. After reading this article, I've decided to give it another try this weekend & replace it with my normal wash routine. I may switch my wash day to Monday evening this week since I plan to become one with water this holiday weekend =)

Until next time, CIAO!

First Henna Experience

Ok so this is a month late but that's due to me not being the efficacious blogger I use to be :-/ Anywho...I tried my first henna experiement May 29th and it wasn't as bad or messy as I thought it would be. I purchased some Cassia Henna from http://www.butters-n-bars.com/. I learned a lot from the video tutorial they provide on their site as well as my communication with Sharika who is more than willing to help out a henna newbie. My mixture consisted of castor oil, honey, coconut oil, olive oil & hot water. I let it sit while I showered and then applied all over ensuring each strand was covered. I slept with it over night and rinsed the following morning. Once I got everything out, I began my normal weekend wash routine & honestly I must say the end results were fabulous!! My hair was super soft and strong. This weekend is actually my next scheduled henna treatment, hopefully I'll get to squeeze it in!

Natural Hair Update =)

Hello my loves :-) Its been a while since my last detailed post but I'm back and just wanted to share with you my progress on this road called Nappturality. Here's a quick refresher for you guys. My last perm was Oct 3rd 2009 (see link http://puresimplicity-diva.blogspot.com/2009/10/ive-just-made-decision.html ) & my BC (Big Chop) was May 7th 2010. Here's what my hair looked like during this time frame:

The permed days

My transitioning day (Senegalese twist)

My BC

A month later June 13th (the result of a two-strand twist)

At the time of my BC, my hair length was 1 1/2 inches & my hair type is a 4b/4c.The products I'm using consist of Almond Oil, Coconut Oil which my hair seems to love (leaves my hair soft & manageable), Castor Oil, Unrefined Shea Butter, Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Moisturizing Conditioner (Orchid & Coconut Milk), Homemade Deep Conditioner (Hello Hydration, Castor Oil & Honey), Cantu Shea Butter Daily Oil Moisturizer, Palmer's Olive Oil Formula Organi-Gro Deep Conditioner with EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil), Creme of Nature Lemongrass & Rosemary Leave-In Conditioner

In the beginning, regimen consisted of daily co-washes with any of the conditioners listed above. I baggied every evening before bed with castor oil, almond oil & coconut oil. I then switched it up a bit by dedicating either Friday's or Saturday's as my wash day. I wash my hair with my favorite shampoo Dr. Woods Pure Peppermint/Shea Butter castile soap, I was using my own mix as a DC but I've begun using Palmer's Olive Oil Formula Organi Gro Deep Conditioner with EVOO (this product smells amazing & leaves my hair very manageable!) which depending on which day I wash I either sleep with it over night or leave in for about a few hours. I also use a little Mega-Tek on my wash days. I've mixed it with some Sweet Almond oil which I believe prevents the shedding some users have experience. I end my ritual with Creme of Nature's Lemongrass & Rosemary Leave-In Conditioner which I'm not to crazy about the smell but my hair seems to love it so I'll make her happy . Once I'm done I apply unrefined shea butter & EVCO, I let my hair air dry just a little before I begin two-strand twisting my hair (I find I love my end results better than twisting on wet hair). My weekend plans depict how long I keep my twist in for.

I took a measurement today & according to my measuring tape, my hair is now about 3in. I also co-wash when I'm not twisting my hair and I use either V05 Herbal Escapes moisturizing Conditioner, V05 Tea Therapy Nourishing Conditioner or Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Moisturizing Conditioner. May 29th was my first Cassia Treatment which I purchased from Butters n Bars and the results were great!! Hair felt stronger as well as more manageable. I mixed it with hot water, castor oil, honey & evco, I slept with it over night and rinsed out the next morning. This past week has been an amazing one!! After my washing ritual last Sat, all I did was apply a little water to my hair at night before bed along with some Cantu Shea Butter Daily Oil Moisturizer lotion and then shaking my hair out with some coconut oil and sweet almond oil. My two-strand lasted the whole week without me having to do it over, I was totally shocked. I'm loving everyyyyyyy moment of my new found nappiness and can't wait to see what the future holds for me!!

Word of The Day!

"Life is a train of moods like a string of beads; and as we pass through them they prove to be many-colored lenses which paint the world their own hue, and each shows only what lies in its own focus"
